We all know going to school can sometimes be so dull, but trust us, these schools are much more interesting that you would never miss or skip a class.
A school in China has started a new course where they teach students on how to play competitive video games and how to become a professional video gamer. Students spend half of their time playing games and second half on “theory lessons“.
The course is called eSports and Management, and the tuition fee is around $2.050 per year. The school name is Lanxiang Technical School in the city of Jinan in eastern China.
After the first year, some students show tendencies for becoming an in-game leader, some are more saturated with single player games, and some of them chose to focus on promotion, organizing events and coaching. The exciting thing is that players or students who show exceptional performance during their education get extreme discounts regarding their tuition fees, some who achieve success as a gamer or win international tournaments get exempted from paying any tax.
Regarding eSports in China, we can see an extreme rise in popularity. iResearch company from China estimates that more than 270m people are involved in gaming or just watching games via different streaming platforms. Newzoo company expects that the global revenue from eSports in 2018 will be astonishing $906m and China will have their share of ~20%. Also, CNG data company reports that eSports employ more than 60k people in China alone, and yet they need more workers in this sphere.
In Asia alone, there is more than 1000 Universities, Faculties, and schools that have their own eSports teams.
At first, many parents thought it was just about playing video games. In fact, it's not the case. Esports is developing to a very high degree, and it's become an economic growth driver. - quote from school director Rong Lanxiang
Here is a list of eSports schools/universities all over the globe:
Established in 2016, they offer LoL scholarship program. The game developers support this program + they will fund the creation of the gaming cafe.
They are the first University in the United States who offered gaming classes. This is a private University, and they offer scholarships to students who show passion and talent for competitive gaming.
In this school, learning eSports and general gaming for six hours a week is a must! Sounds good? Listen to this.. All students that enroll in the eSports course will get brand new PC's that are equipped with the best and latest components.
This school focuses on providing the best education for their students regarding eSports organization and management. Of course, there is a lot of playing and general gaming, but their focus is that every student learns the management side of eSports, just in case that they can get a job in the industry despite their potential failure as a professional player.
There are also numerous eSports associations and organizations all over the world. One of them is the British Esports Association, Iver Heath (UK). Their goal is to find and help young aspiring talents for gaming. They aim to push eSports to be recognized as a traditional sport.
To this we say, why not? eSports is the future, we can argue as much as we can, but the numbers/stats/reports show that eSports are progressing at an exponential rate. The prize pools for various competitions are above $20 million, the options to advance your career are numerous, so why not try yourself and see… Maybe YOU are the next professional eSports player!
