We often talk about new technology achievements like This is the best PC in the world, period. and With this phone, you can send smells along with your selfies, and Goodyear revealed a new concept of green (mossy) tires in Geneva Motor Show 2018., but some technological achievements are really astonishing. Sony resurrected the robot dog called Aibo, that was one of the most famous brands during the early 2000's. If you wanted to have a pet that is adorable, listens to commands without hesitation and has artificial intelligence, then read on.
Aibo (pal or partner in Japanese) is a series of robotic pets created by Sony. The first prototype was in 1998, and the first consumer model was in 1999. Sony created these cute robotic dogs all the way up to 2006 when they stopped the production and focused on some other products/projects that were more profitable at the moment. And in November 2017 Sony announced an entirely new generation of Aibo dog robots after 11 years. The new models appeared on the market after the start of 2018.
The price is a bit high, but for 2,899 USD you can get a robot dog, name tags and three-year subscription for services. What else do you gain by purchasing Aibo?
Aibo can remember over 100 faces, and by scanning the relations and interactions of people, he can determinate different ties. What's the use of a pet if you cannot pet it? If you pat Aibo on his back or scratch his nose or neck, he will remember that and will react more friendly & joyfully to you in the future. The main difference that separates Aibo from other technological advancements and gadgets like digital helpers etc. is his ability to develop his personality after some period by analyzing what you let him do and what you forbid. He can listen to you, but he doesn't have to, and he can react by giving a sad look or cheerful eyes, in other words, if you and your neighbor have Aibo, those two pets will be completely different even tho they came from the same company and factory.
From 1999 to 2006, Sony sold over 150,000 robot pet toys.

An interesting fact about the company is that employees in Sony never wanted to call Aibos dogs, but that didn't prevent new owners to treat those machines as regular family members. There were cases when owners ordered parts via eBay or Amazon to keep them alive and functional, and also held funerals for those Robots that broke down.
New Aibo pet robot dog has already sold in over 20,000 pieces in Japan; the global sale starts from September 2018.
