There are so many small to big titles coming out, often some real diamonds get buried or forgotten. So here 10 titles that you must not overlook since they might be the real treasures of this year.
Starting off, we have a tittle, by Subset Games. Aka the people behind FTL: Faster Than Light, the many awards winning spaceship managing game.
Into The Breach will be a tactics game where you control mechs too stop giant monsters from destroying cities. Not only will the game have a very heavy focus on positioning and combos, but also there will be a time travel mechanic to it.
As of writing this. the game's site claims that it will be out the end of February.
Made by the studio that brought gamers the great titles Shank, Don't Starve and Mark of the Ninja, Griftlands will have a simple goal: get rich!Trade, negotiate, cheat, steal, do whatever you need to do, to get paid. Not much else is known, other than it will have a turn-based combat system and it will sport the classic comic-like art style that Klei is known for. Expected to be released Q1 of 2018.
What do you have when you mix a farming game (like Harvest Moon or Stardew Valley) a life simulation (like Animal Crossing) and Pokemon. You have a weird, but yet interesting tittle Ooblets. Made by two people, this game will have you tending to a farm, but some of the crops turn into tiny creatures, known as Ooblets. From there you can go on adventures or just enjoy farm life with your many tiny pals. The game was so good, it won Double Fine's Fortnight event, which means that it will be published by them once it comes out this year(hopefully).
From Chucklefish, aka the people behind Starbound, this title at first, glance seems to be a classic Advance Wars game, but with a fantasy paint over. And to an extent that is true. But it also promises a lot more, such as online play, modding and even custom maps and adventures. Not much else to say, it looks great, it seems to be fun and accessible for players new to tactics titles, and hopefully, it will release soon.
An isometric action RPG, with a beautiful pixel art style and an overall dark souls feel. The game looks fantastic and has been a long time coming. However, devs are on and off with the community, so it has lead to rumors that the game is dead. But after some digging here are some truths: Eitr is still in development and it is planned to be released in 2018.
Here is a 3D action brawler that is very strange. Not just that it is the first in a series, and is a better version of a PS3 title, but the development has had much up and downs. But in the latest Kickstarter update, the devs are waiting for the green light by Sony and Microsoft, and we might get the title this march, if not at least this year.
Equal parts Dark Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, this 2D action RPG sees you taking on giant immortals because Death told you too. While no concrete release date, there are plenty of rumors going around that the game is almost past its beta testing and might release sometime in 2018.
This narrative driven game focuses on old American folk stories with a folk-blues atmosphere. Couple that a nice painterly art style and tarot card elements, this game will probably the most unique looking title this year.
Starting off as a humble game jam draft title, The Last Night comes as a full game. Featuring a fantastic mix of pixel art and 3D environments and a general Blade Runner setting and story, The Last Night is one of those titles everyone must keep on eye on.
In a dying world. where blizzards and giant reign supreme, you play as a lone heroin trying to deal with all of it. This game wears its Shadow of the Colossus inspiration on its sleeve, it has amazing production value and generally seems fun and cool to play. It's also one of those titles that do not even look as an indie title. Praey for the Gods is the biggest indie title you should expect this year.
PS. I did not misspell “Prey”. The devs had to legally change the title since a major publisher was being a jerk with copyright laws.
